Snap Introduces New AI Tools for Better Augmented Reality
Snap Inc. launches new AI tools for better augmented reality, offering more realistic effects and a faster, upgraded Lens Studio for AR creation.
Snap Inc., the company behind Snapchat, announced the launch of its newest AI technology on Tuesday. These new tools will allow users to add more realistic special effects to their photos and videos using their phone cameras, helping Snap stay competitive in the social media world.
New AI-Powered AR Features
Snap, a leader in augmented reality (AR), which adds digital effects to real-world images, also revealed an upgraded version of its developer program, Lens Studio. This program helps artists and developers create AR features for Snapchat and other apps.
In the next few months, Snapchat users will get access to these advanced AR special effects, known as lenses, enhancing their creative options.
Enhanced Lens Studio
Bobby Murphy, Snap's Chief Technology Officer, explained that the improved Lens Studio will cut down the time needed to make AR effects from weeks to just hours. This update will also allow for more detailed and complex AR creations.
"These new tools are exciting because they expand what people can create, but they're also simple to use, so even beginners can quickly make something special," Murphy said in an interview.
Generative AI Tools
The updated Lens Studio includes new generative AI tools, like an AI assistant that helps developers with their questions and a tool that lets artists type in a description to automatically create a 3D image. This makes the process much easier since there's no need to build 3D models from scratch.
Future Plans for AR
Snap also aims to develop full-body AR experiences, not just facial effects. For example, creating new outfits for users is one of the challenging tasks they plan to tackle next, Murphy mentioned.
With these new AI tools and the upgraded Lens Studio, Snap Inc. continues to push the limits of augmented reality. These updates make AR creation faster and easier, giving users more ways to express their creativity on Snapchat and other platforms.
