Apple iPhone 16e Launched: Affordable Price, Powerful Features
Apple’s iPhone 16e debuts at $599 with the A18 chip, C1 modem, and a 48MP camera—delivering top-tier performance at a budget-friendly price.

Apple has launched the iPhone 16e, a new addition to its smartphone lineup, starting at $599. Designed as a more budget-friendly option, it still comes with some impressive features. It runs on Apple’s A18 processor, which means it supports Apple Intelligence—something last year’s iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models don’t offer. The 16e also introduces Apple’s first-ever in-house modem, the C1 chip, while keeping useful features like Face ID, the Action button, and a better camera system than the now-discontinued iPhone SE.
That said, it does miss out on a few premium features, like multiple camera lenses and Apple’s Camera Control button. Still, for the price, the iPhone 16e is a fantastic option if you want a reliable smartphone without spending too much.
What You Get with the iPhone 16e
The iPhone 16e looks a lot like the iPhone 14, with a notch at the top of the screen for Face ID. Unlike the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, which have the Dynamic Island for real-time notifications and updates, the 16e sticks to the traditional design. While Dynamic Island is a nice feature, it’s not something most people will miss.
One useful addition is the customizable Action button, which you can set up for different tasks like turning on the flashlight, opening the camera, or launching the translation app.
On the back, the iPhone 16e has a single 48-megapixel Fusion camera. The regular iPhone 16 has two cameras, including an ultrawide lens, and the 16 Pro adds a telephoto lens with 5x zoom. While the 16e lacks an ultrawide lens, it does offer a 2x optical zoom. The photos it takes are clear and sharp, though if you love taking wide-angle shots, you might prefer one of the higher-end models.
Apple’s First In-House Modem and Performance
A big change with the iPhone 16e is the introduction of Apple’s own C1 modem, replacing the Qualcomm chips used in previous models. This allows Apple to optimize its hardware and reduce reliance on external suppliers. In everyday use, browsing, social media, and video streaming feel smooth and responsive—no noticeable difference compared to previous iPhones.
One downside is that the iPhone 16e doesn’t support millimeter-wave 5G, but that won’t matter much to most users. Speed tests on the device showed downloads reaching up to 672 Mbps, which is even faster than a typical home internet connection.
Battery Life
Apple claims the iPhone 16e can last up to 26 hours of video playback. In everyday use, the battery holds up well—after an overnight charge, it still had 72% left by mid-afternoon, even with music streaming and web browsing throughout the day.
A Smart Pick for Budget-Conscious Buyers
If you want a reliable iPhone without spending a fortune, the iPhone 16e is a fantastic option. It may not have all the premium features of the iPhone 16 or 16 Pro, but it delivers solid performance at a more accessible price. Whether you're upgrading from an older device or just need a dependable phone for everyday use, the 16e is a smart and affordable choice. However, if you’re after advanced photography features or cutting-edge technology, you may want to consider one of Apple’s higher-end models.
