China Launches Xi Jinping Ideology-based AI Chatbot
China's latest AI chatbot trained on President Xi Jinping's ideology. Learn how it reflects state ideology and technological advancements.
China has introduced a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot that is exclusively trained on the political ideology of President Xi Jinping. This latest advancement underscores China's stringent adherence to ideological guidelines within the realm of AI technology.
The chatbot, which is based on the principles of "Xi Jinping Thought," marks a concerted effort by Chinese authorities to propagate the socialist values espoused by the country's leadership. This doctrine, often referred to as "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," encompasses fourteen key principles aimed at bolstering the absolute authority of the Chinese Communist Party, reinforcing national security, promoting socialist values, and enhancing the well-being of the populace.
Developed by China's cyberspace academy, the AI chatbot underwent training on a total of seven databases, six of which primarily consisted of information technologies curated by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). Notably, the seventh database was dedicated exclusively to Xi Jinping Thought, indicating the paramount importance attached to the Chinese leader's ideological framework.
The unveiling of this AI chatbot serves as a testament to China's commitment to leveraging technological advancements to disseminate political ideologies. It aligns with previous initiatives such as the integration of Xi Jinping Thought into educational curricula and the launch of the "Study Xi Strong Nation" app in 2019, designed to facilitate learning and assessment of Xi's principles.
While the primary purpose of the chatbot is to showcase advancements in cybersecurity and IT research, it also demonstrates China's ambition to harness AI for broader applications. Capable of generating report outlines and providing intelligent question-and-answer sessions, the AI model exemplifies the potential of AI-driven solutions in various domains.
Despite its impressive capabilities, questions linger regarding the accessibility of the Xi-trained chatbot to the public. It remains to be seen whether this AI model will be deployed for widespread use or restricted to internal purposes within government and academic circles.
This unveiling comes amidst a global race for AI supremacy, with the U.S. and China leading the charge. While OpenAI's ChatGPT has garnered acclaim in the field, China's expansive population and data reservoirs position it as a formidable contender in AI development. However, the operation of Chinese AI models is constrained by stringent censorship regulations, limiting their ability to address politically sensitive inquiries.
As China continues to assert its prowess in AI innovation, the unveiling of this AI chatbot underscores the nation's determination to harness technological advancements to advance political objectives and ideological agendas.
