Bitcoin Ends Its Worst October Since 2014 Down About 7% as Ether and Solana Fall 16% and 19%
Bitcoin closed October about 7.3% lower, its weakest October since 2014 and second straight October loss, while ether fell 16% and solana 19%; bitcoin traded near $77,800 early Sunday.
Bitcoin finished October with its weakest performance for that month in more than a decade, ending a three-month run of gains as a technology-stock selloff and the record Binance security breach weighed on digital assets in the final days of the month.

Exact figures vary by venue.
Weakest October since 2014
The decline was bitcoin's worst October since 2014, according to data from CoinGlass cited by Cointelegraph. On Bitstamp's price history, only October 2014, when bitcoin fell 13.2%, was worse, Called It News reported, citing CryptoWatchDesk.
It was also the second consecutive losing October, after a 3.89% drop in October 2025, and the first monthly decline since June, according to AltcoinReporter's analysis of Binance data. September had closed up 6.42%. October's close was the lowest month-end level since July, when bitcoin ended the month at $62,887.88 on Binance. The month is often nicknamed "Uptober" by traders because of its historically strong record; seven of the 10 Octobers in Binance's data since 2017 closed higher, AltcoinReporter said.
Bitcoin is down about 11.5% so far in 2026, based on Yahoo Finance's December 31, 2025, close of $87,508.83.
Most of the damage came late in the month
Bitcoin traded between a high of $87,220 on October 2 and a low of $76,325.98 on October 30 on Binance, AltcoinReporter said. It held above $80,000 for most of the month before losing 3.18% on October 22. The worst session was October 29, a 4.12% decline on the day the Binance breach unsettled the market.
Bitcoin had closed October 28 at about $81,287, only 2.7% below the month's open, before the final three sessions turned the month clearly negative, Called It News reported, citing CryptoWatchDesk.
U.S. stocks added pressure. The Nasdaq Composite fell about 2.9% on Friday to 25,437.00 and lost about 5.3% in October, according to Yahoo Finance data. Trading firm QCP Capital said macro conditions, technology-sector fears and the Binance hack had "created a period of heightened market repricing," Cointelegraph reported.
Altcoins fell further

Seasonal patterns based on a small number of years have been an unreliable guide to bitcoin's performance, the past two Octobers show.
